I am going to build a pc and i want it to have 16gb ram (8gb x 2).
So i decided on g.skill ripjaws V for
$115. But then i saw patriot signature line and it only costs $85
Both are ddr4, the patriot one is 2400 mhz and ripjaws is 2777mhz. Why is there such a huge price differece and will there be a performance drop if i go for the cheaper patriot

Solution
What is the make/model of your motherboard?
Your first concern is to insure compatibility, particularly for a ryzen build.
The ram kit should be explicitly supported on the motherboard QVL list or by the ram vendor on their ram selection app for your motherboard.

Faster ram is normally more expensive, and prices can vary.

If this is a ryzen build then opt for the faster ram.
If this is a Intel build, ram speed does not matter much.
Regardless if you will be using integrated graphics, faster ram is better.

i would either go with those bang for buck 2400Mhz or baller 3200Mhz
anything in between is just pointless as those have less options and cost a lot. just not worth it.

as far as the performance is concerned unless you doing some professional work and pushing your Rig to its limits Or building with ryzen 2200G or 2400G you wouldn't see any difference what so ever, even between DDR3 1333mhz and ddr4 3200mhz

First of all if you are going with intel build then it doesn't make any huge difference in performance but as you mention in comment that you are using Ryzen 2200g the RAM speed matter alot, as ryzen CPU tends to perform well on higher speed RAM
