Hey guys! I've stumbled into a problem when upgrading my CPU from q8400 to x5470. my mobo is a GA-EP45-UD3P so its compatible with the mod. What my problem seems to be is that when I change my CPU, it boots up normally but windows detect its still a q8400, tho using HWMonitor, it said its an x5470. Besides that, if I go to my bios and put everything to default, windows would not boot and imminently crash. (using windows 10) I also cannot boot from a USB to reinstall windows 10 because it would crash aswell. I'm currently at a step in which it booted up (after going from q8400 to x5470 again (only way I can boot into windows is to change my CPU again)) and trying to reset windows via settings. If anyone can help it would be really appreciated!

Solution
Have you had your bios modied? Stock socket 775 motherboards will not work with a socket 771 cpu even with an adapter. You need to have someone modify your bios to be compatable with the x5470. You can find people to modify your bios files for you on ebay. This usually is very cheap.

is that correct? my motherboard detects that i am using a x5470 perfectly and ive seen other people with the same bios as me being able to get this working

I remember getting my bios modded years ago, but it was for free from a development website - name escapes me, but many will do it for free.
Even though windows is showing the OLD cpu, have you run any tests?
Just because its getting confused with what you have, doesn't mean its running the OLD cpu, because it can't. Its not actually plugged in. It is probably a registry bug.
