-UPDATE-

good news - the cause of symptom is temp.

bad news - I bought super duper dual fans coolermaster hyper212. didnt help. temp in the pc case is build up very fast and framerate dropp still occur when it heat up to certain point. but i open side panel it help, symptom is gone. unless i close it.

gonna make sequel post.

i just got RX580 8gb on my crappy rig.
-FX8300 on....
-crappy TA970 mobo
-8gb 1600Mhz OEM ram
-corsair VS650
-no SSD, only HDDs

got good framerate overall on AAA games with max setting at 1080p [like60+] but not so stable. randomly got framerate drop spike down to 30~fps for duration 5-10 sec. didn't happen much and im not gonna die from it but still annoying

what I already done/tried
-re-install driver and update to latest + re-install window [win10]
-tried older version driver. back to 17.xx
-tinkering with bios setting in cpu section. like disable c6 , c1e , power now. but no cool 'n quite in it.
-OC my cpu
-no parking core on my cpu
-search the net all day looking for fix
-on HWmonitor. my cpu 98-100% all the time of playing while GPU is vary.
-try lower setting to lowest

and still happen.

im a novice. but this sympton of bottleneck right? so change cpu is the only fix? if so, im on very tight budget. will change to ryzan3 2200g + cheap A320 mobo gonna help?

Solution
The short answer is, yes, your CPU is bottlenecking that GPU, in certain situations. It's also very possible only 8gbs of ram is impacting AAA games at 1080p!

Monitor your CPU, load/temps with HWmon, and setup MSI afterburner on screen display to show CPU/GPU/RAM usage. If your CPU is hitting 100% while gaming, and your GPU is less maybe 60-70$, then your CPU is bottlenecking which will cause your issues. Eqaully so, if you play something like BF 1/V then system ram usage at 1080p is typically upward of 7-9gbs. So if you only have 8gbs, your start using the swap/page file, which can cause frame drops like crazy.

You need a CPU/Mobo/Ram upgrade. What is your budget? The Ryzen 2200g wouldn't help much, but will get you better FPS. But...

Sounds like the CPU is the issue but also check the CPU temp while gaming. For that FX you want it to be under 60C and thermal throttling could also be lowering the clock speeds to prevent damage. Also many of those motherboards don't have good overclocking capabilities so I'd revert the CPU back to stock.

If you could stretch to the 2400g, or Ryzen 1500x or something, that would be much better, and both would slot into an A320. But, being honest, I'd recommend getting a B350/450 mobo so you can OC your CPU down the line for extra performance.

cpu is around 60-65 while playing.

not gonna stretch budget on mobo but may be I can stretch 2200g to ryzen5 1400, will that help more? [2400g is kinda impossible] i dont mind current overall framerate [im a low spec gamer] 60-ish is fine I just want that drop spike gone.

That's a bit of a trade off. The 2200g v the 1400. On one hand the 2200g has a higher base and boost speeds, which will give more FPS in games, or the 1400 with more threads, which would make in game smoothness a whole lot better for more demanding AAA games, with roughly the same FPS. Its a tough choice. I'd prob go with the 1400 just because it has more processing power for CPU intensive games. Others might disagree though.

It would definitely be a much cheaper fix then the platform update and this would allow the OP to save up more for 3rd gen. The 3300 (6C/12T) for $100 is going to be fantastic.

Also getting a CPU cooler that supports AM4 support will allow the OP to use it in the upgrade.

ok. you guys still there?

just wake up and try to looking at temp like you said. try monitoring while playing The Division [detailed urban open world with lot of action. can get cpu hot easily] and crank down setting to mid-high so if the fps drop occur. I can spot it easily.

-64c …..still fine no drop so far

-and when the drop occur. cpu temp kick down to 50~ish with lowered framerate.

look like temp issue like you said. since the game work just fine until it hit 64-65c boarderline before it kick down fps to 40~ish [with max setting. it can drop to 30~]

my cpu fan is after market but crappy one. ok time to hit the shop..... oh and,

just one cpu fan will enogh to keep cpu under 60-62? no extra case fan just the one at the rear that come with case. no front or side fan, just cpu fan and rear case fan will be enough?
