Hey all

I've been scouring the internet and this forum for the answer im looking for to no avail, so I'm making my own thread. Let me get to the point.

My specs:
Mobo: Asus P67 Sabertooth
CPU: I5 2500K
Chassis: HAF-X
RAM: Corsair Dominator DDR3

I should just point out for the RAM that I have 4 x 2GB sticks in my PC, thus occupying all the slots on my mobo.

I think those are the relevant things. Now I want to overclock my CPU, but obviously I want some better than stock cooling. I've looked at the Noctua NH-D14 and at the Thermalright Venomous X, but it seems that both of these won't fit (after emailing both of the manufacturers with my specs). So I now turn to you guys in the hope that someone has a similar setup of has knowledge of what will work with my current setup.

I'm really keen on doing this OC, so help will be greatly appreciated.

you could go with like a prolimatech super mega with one 140mm and one 120mm fan, I think it preforms the same as the NH-D14 at about the same price, and the super mega is not to wide so it will fit.

The problem is that the Dominator RAM is very tall. You could take off the heat sinks (google how to) .... or use different RAM. The Prolimatech Genesis might be a solution.

Be careful with the self contained water units as it won't be the RAM or case that gives you an issue .... if you have a triple GFX slot MoBo (i.e. Asus WS Revolution), the high placement of the top PCI slot . You won't have this problem with the Sabertooth. The V6 GT has great performance but sounds like you live next to a jetport.

If ya want top end, I'd recommend the Thermalright Silver Arrow ($85).

With both of its 140mm fans connected directly to the computer's power supply and running at full speed, the Silver Arrow turns in amazing performance, edged out by less than 1 degree by the Cooler Master V6 GT. The minimal performance difference here is probably due to the V6 GT's high-speed fans, each of which is rated at 90CFM, as compared to the Silver Arrow's 69CFM fans. It's worth noting here that the V6 GT's fans are quite loud at full speed, whereas the Silver Arrow's fans are very quiet.....I think the Silver Arrow represents the ultimate air cooler than can be built and still fit within the constraints of an ATX motherboard and a standard computer case.

If ya want self contained water cooling, the Antec Kuhler 620 is both quiet and offers better perofrmance than any single fan model. The 920 is the best performance wise but is also loud.

If ya want budget, the Scythe Mugen 2 ($40) beats the Hyper 212 by7C in BMR's testing.

Thanks guys for the replies.
@JackNaylor, I looked at those reviews you posted the links for. One thing that is standing out for me is that the Thermalright Venomous X gives really good performance according to those reviews.

It is one of the heatsinks I've been looking at. I checked Thermalright's website and found something I was looking for. They show you how to measure the distance from your CPU socket to your RAM slots in order to identify whether the cooler will fit over tall RAM like mine or not. So when I get off work today I will go and measure it to see if it will fit.

As far as I know, this HS is not boxed with fans, so you have to get them seperately. Are there any fans you would recommend?
