what is the difference between ASMedia® USB 3.0 controller and Intel® Z77 chipset usb 3. consider the mobo p8z77 v and the v pro

v has
ASMedia® USB 3.0 controller : *7
2 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue)
Intel® Z77 chipset : *7
4 x USB 3.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, blue, 2 at mid-board)
Intel® Z77 chipset :
10 x USB 2.0 port(s) (2 at back panel, black, 8 at mid-board)
but pro has 4x usb 3 ports (asmedia)

also if the case has 2 usb ports at front,then which would u consider. usually how many usb ports do a case have ( sum of front and back)

if the motherboard support usb 3 then should the case also have usb 3 port,. pls suggest some good mid tower budget cases. planning for a i5 3750k,asus p8z77 v mobo,gtx 660ti gpu system, is there a need to go for the full tower..

Intel is Native and ASMedia is not native and adds a fractional amount of latency as an add-on chipset. Otherwise the differences can be bandwidth, the native Intel will have full bandwidth whereas the ASMedia is shared. For most folks it won't make any difference.

ASUS offers 'USB 3.0 Boost' to the non-native USB 3.0 chipsets via 'UASP Mode' and requires 'AI Suite II' to function. A 'data buffer' is a fancy way to say the data is stored in the RAM (memory). I have found some of these ASUS 'tweaks' to be a dual edge sword, and anytime there's a power disruption with a 'cache' you risk corruption.
