Do you know what is Intel® Chipset Device driver?

I have an Intel DX58SO motherboard. Do you know what is Intel® Chipset Device driver?
I had reformat my computer several times and I always install this driver but I really don't know what it does.
It is not really an issue but I am just curious about it

it simple it realy packed with inf files needed for most of intel chipset mb. on mb up to today z77 that are out there is two main chips on the mb a north bridge and south bridge. they act like a train switch or a train conductor. windows has some of these drivers built in to at lest boot a pc but running the intel chipset updater puts the newest ones into windows.
