Depends on the laptop, but if your laptop is based on a santarosa platform (with t7500 it probably is)
then
t9300 and t9500 yes
t9800 no.. because of the 1066 mhz FBS (best case scenario is that it will work, but will downclock to 800 mhz FBS - meaning its a wasted investment)
then

And also, yes they are faster + they run cooler;
so if you can get the cpu on the cheap or if you have over-heating problems with the old cpu, go for it. I wouldn't spend an arm and a leg for the upgrade tho, especially for a moderate user.
