Approximate Purchase Date: End of June

Budget Range: ~£900 (Don't worry about this too much, i just want the best i can get for the money)

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Internet, Office tasks, Coding

Parts Not Required: mouse, speakers, monitor, keyboard

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: ebuyer (free delivery) but others are welcome if cheaper with delivery added on

Country of Origin: United Kingdom

Parts Preferences: Any that does the job well

Overclocking: Yes but not often

SLI or Crossfire: Yes

Monitor Resolution: 1680x1050 atm but will add a 1920x1080 in the future and have 2 screens (only 1 used for gaming tho)

I am pretty sure on the following parts:


Case: Corsair 600T - £119.99


Processor: Intel Core i5 2500K - £164.00


Motherboard: Asrock Z68 EXTREME4 - £140.26


Memory: G-Skill 8Gb 1600MHz - £64.63


Hard Disk: Samsung Spin Point 1Tb - £41.79


Optical Drive: Sony Optaric 24x DVD+/-RW - £14.99


Power Supply: XFX Pro 750W - £71.86


Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium - £68.15


So that comes to £685.86.

However the two components i am unsure of are the CPU cooling and the Graphics Card and i have roughly £220 (give or take) left to spend on those two items.

With regard to the Graphics, i was looking at the Geforce 560Ti and the Radeon 6950's, but i am open to any ideas.

Hi, i would drop the Corsair case because i've heard the cooling isn't great. I think it's meant more for quietness. Personally i'd go for an Antec 902 or 1200 or a HAF 922/933/X, theyre more geared toward cooling. Also you should give Aria a try, heres a build i made on there:

Ok i typed that after the first paragraph without realising that Ebuyer is equally cheap as Aria :). I would still reccommend a cheaper case and you can still get a cheaper motherboard with x8/x8 capabilities. As for the graphics and cooling, i would reccommend the HD 6950 GB and the Noctua NH-D14 because in my opinion theyre both top quality components with good value for money.

In terms of games i am new to PC gaming, however BF3 i think will be a good benchmark to base a GPU on.

Completely forgot about the nzxt phantom, much better than the corsair, thanks!

I will probably pick up a tiny SSD (Intel 310 20Gb) sometime in the future (I can be persuaded otherwise tho).

On second thoughts i probably won't use the SSD cashing feature of the Z68, so what do you guys think is the best P67 motherboard?

Also, is the Gigabyte 6950 linked in my last post flashable to a 6970 and do you think its a good idea?

I would choose between the Asrock P67 Extreme4 and the Asus P8P67 Pro. Altho seeing as these are more expensive than that Gigabyte Z68 board that jmsellars mentioned, if the quality, features, layout, etc of that board is sufficient/comparable to those two P67 boards then you might as well just go for that Gigabyte.

The cooler that I would prefer to go for is the Thermalright Archon, which is just as good, if not better than the Noctua NH-D14/Thermalright Silver Arrow, but is usually cheaper. SPCR have compared the Noctua 14cm fan to the Thermalright TY-140 a few times and the Thermalright was shown to be superior.

It is quite tall, it will fit in any of the cases mentioned so far in this thread, but if you change your mind about the case again then make sure that it can take heatsinks 170mm tall if you want to use the Archon.

With the cases we've been looking at so far a modular PSU is not any sort of necessity, as there would be plenty of room in any of the cases mentioned to store away unused cables.
If budget is not that much of a concern to you then, if I was you, I'd be tempted to get something with even higher quality, something that is known for being quiet, higher efficiency and modular like the Silverstone Strider Plus 750W.
