Greetings!

First of all, I wanna say hi to everyone since I'm new here. I just felt that this is the most trustworthy, efficient and accessible website regarding computers and stuff so yeah, not to make this thread lengthy, Let me proceed to my problem. And oh, let me just clarify that I've tried searching this subject on the forum and unfortunately found nothing, so here goes.

So I have this one and a half year old gaming rig that I'm using and then all of a sudden, I noticed the game I was playing started hanging frame by frame every random seconds. So at first I thought It was nothing. I noticed an extreme drop of performance in terms of graphics and also my rig itself. It just hangs by itself and sometimes the whole PC hangs to the point that I can't even move my cursor resorting me to shut it down improperly. I also experience Blue Screen of Death sometimes.

I'm currently playing Continent of the Ninth and I'm also using VMWare Workstation for multiple client purposes. At first I thought It was a virus that's eating up all my processes but then I tried cheking out the temperature and found out that my GPU Temperature (Inno3d GTX 550 Ti) turns out to be at 96 Celsius. I also checked my Processor's temperature and It's around 40 to 65 Celsius. I found out through searching that Its a bit high and the thing is I don't know exactly what to do on this one. The GPU and processor's fan are functioning well (I guess) since my temperature checker software says that the fan's RPM isn't 0. But I haven't yet checked them physically. I'm not that techie regarding hardware specifications tho. I was thinking if I'll bring my whole System Unit to a maintenance place to clean it up or something.

Here's my specifications:

MoBo: Intel DP67BA
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4 GHz
RM: ADATA DDR3 @ 1333 Dual Channel 8 GB ea. (Total of 16 GB RAM)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti (Inno 3d)
Power Supply: Cougar CMX 700 w
Computer Case: Cooler Master with 2 fans at side and one fan at the front and at the top. (Not quite sure what model this Cooler Master is)

Any help would be much appreciated. :)

Ok, so first up, why did you buy an Nvidia card? If you are doing modern day gaming you wouldn't have nearly as many hassals with an AMD Radeon HD 7000 series GPU. If your graphics card is getting up to 96 degrees (I'm guessing celcius) then there is something seriously wrong with it. You should return it to the place you bought it and ask them for advice on it, maybe if it is brand new it would still be under warranty so you could swap it but the choice I highly reccomend is, don't overclock it AT ALL and save up enough money to buy an AMD Radeon HD 7870 or something. If you had enough money for an 8 core i7 and 16gb of RAM then I am just guessing you can afford to spend $255 on a graphics card.
Hope I helped :)

I seriously thought that Nvidia card is better than AMD card in terms of gaming, is it not? But some articles say that 96 Celsius is just somewhat normal and above 100 is the dangerous mark. I'm quite confused here. :O

Sorry :\ AMD Cards are actually better at modern day gaming. They will play most old games though. 96 degrees is definately NOT a good temperature to have your graphics card. For instance I have the AMD Radeon HD 7870 Gigabyte version. It has 3 fans and always stays a cool 20 or so degrees. It is never hot. I'd say you should invest in that. If you are Australian, the best shop to buy it is MSY. Check it out msy.com.au. Their prices are awesome. You could also try centrecom.com.au. But yeah, 96 is excessively high.

That's a bad thing to hear. :| I'm planning to buy that AMD card you're saying. Anyhow, I just found out that everytime I close my Game Client, the temperature lowers down to 50 Celsius Degrees. :O

Hold your horses!

Dont listen to this AMD fanboy, they are very similar cards and the only differences you will see with Nvidea and AMD is with the very high end cards. both cards that he and you are talking about have there pros and cons.

Anyway how long have you had the card?

AMD and Nvidia has almost the same qualities..right now, amd is good at budget cards 7750 and 7770 but everything else is almost the same between the two. Performance/Price is identical with their mid-high range cards. The only difference for me is Physx, 3D vision and cuda with Nvidia and Eyefinity with AMD. Do not buy a card only because it's nvidia or amd. Look into benchmarks of cards within your budget. 550 ti is weak for your i7 build. The least you should be getting is a HD 7870 or GTX 660. If I had your build I'd go for HD 7970 or GTX 670 even 690 hehehe.. Anyway, going back to your question 96C is almost the boiling point of water.. it's only good if your trying to cook something with your video card. Your whole system is running very hot... check for dust or something. Maybe even your psu is hot. Don't use it until you have it checked/cleaned.
