Specs - http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1014739R/1014739Rsp2.shtml

I have a Gateway GM5632E.
- Recently wanted to upgrade my graphics card.
- my brother suggested a VisionTek 900289 Radeon HD 4350 512MB 64-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card
- Heres the link to the card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814129157
- brought my Desktop graphics rating down from a 4.8 - to a 3.7 and ran LOTRO choppier.

- Im thinking of returning it, putting in my old one, and trying to research to find a better one, any suggestions?

Hey Phil,

The 4350 is a bad suggestion -- not any better than your current card.

For $80 to $100 your best bet is probably an AMD 5670 -- it should also be able to run on your PSU without a problem. (better cards than this would challenge your power supply -- gateway/HP are not known for using quality power supplies)

For more detailed advice you would need to provide monitor resolution and expected performance.

Performance (the 8500 is well below this entire list--I would very roughly estimate it at 30% weaker than the 4670)

My monitor resolution is 1920 x 1080.
- im running an "ASUS VH222H-P Black 21.5" 5ms HDMI Widescreen Full HD 1080P LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 ASCR 20000 :1 Built in Speakers" as a monitor
- just looking for something in that budget that's worth the money, and will last me awhile as well as play LOTRO without any problems.

I've seen the 5770 as cheap as $120. Not sure it will max out LOTRO at 1080, but it will do a better job then other cards in the $130 range. Actually, I've heard (but not seen myself) that the GTX460 is down at that range as well. Its faster then the 5770 and will do an even better job. I looked at your computer and you seem good to go, but I couldn't find out if your PSU has the plugs needed to run the GTX460. I couldn't find out if you had any PCIe plugs at all. If you don't have any 6 pin PCIe plugs then you'll need to find a 5670, 5750, or 5770 that doesn't need one.

Hey again,

Thanks for the additional info. With 1080p I would stick with the 5670/5750 or above.

The best card you could run on your current power supply is the 5750. This is slightly better than the 5670 one I suggested earlier (higher is usually better)--but still probably a safe upgrade. Ct suggested a model -- ill suggest another.

If you are just looking to play the game on medium-high settings the 5670 I suggested before or the 5750 here would be good choices. Either is a MASSIVE upgrade from the 8500 you have and would play most games on very high (but maybe not extreme) settings.

If you want to maximize performance, get a psu to support a better graphic card (5770 or 460) and exceed your budget by a little.

p.s. windows experience score is crap -- so dont believe what it says for graphics.

Hey everyone, I was wondering also about a replacement for the Geforce 8500 Gt. I have a Hp Pavilion M8407C.. But the other day my display will not come on. The computer is on and running the monitor is pluged in and hooked to the computer and It will not display anything.. I have tried with another monitor just to be sure.. I was told that its most likley the video card or motherboard.. I figured since the computer is still running that its the video card. And helpful advice will be appreciated.. Im not looking for a super gaming computer just want somthing around the same as what is in it as far as video card.. A little bit better video card is ok too. Thanks
