GTX 480/470 (SLI) Power Supply?

I have a Silverstone Zeus 750w (60a) running 8800gtx SLI for 3 years now, no problems.

Is this powersupply powerful enough to run two 480s or two 470s in SLI?

I wouldn't. GTX480s use 275Watts each I think, two being 550, and your CPU over 100, you're over 60a on the 12v.

GTX470s might work, but once again, it's quite a stretch.

You pretty much NEED a 1kW PSU to run those GTX 380s in SLI.

Peak load power draw - 851W. so absoultely not on the 480.

The 470 pulled 70 less watts single card, so 140 less in sli, 850-140 = 710. The 470 would still be punishing that power supply pretty heavily.

Note: These are at stock, if you plan on overclocking, those numbers increase DRASTICALLY.

Umm... the GTX 470 pulls about the same amount of power as a GTX 285, so yes a 750w will be plenty for 2 GTX 470s, but you need a 850-1000w PSU for 2 GTX 480s just like 2 GTX 295.

Yeh, you might as well go ATI and get two 5870s. It'll perform 90% of two GTX480s but you'll be able run it on a 750watt. It'll also run cooler and cost your less $$$.

^^^^^If he has a running sli setup for 3 years, he has a sli only setup. So 2 ati gpu's aren't going to do him any good, with his current m/b.

i would get a 950w PSU as well, yes the 470's use less power, but its better for the PSU to have some headroom

Wow I've never seen anyone say you need am 850w PSU for dual GTX 285s, let alone 950w....

yeah, but the 470's have quite the OC headroom right, so i would imagine you could get close to the 480's TDP with a heavy OC

but i was more talking about 2xGTX480's not 470's

Hi guys, the computers running at the English launch event had Corsair 1000HX PSU's in them (the machines runnnig 2 480's in SLI that is).

So i'm guessing a 1000w PSU will be required? Unless they deliberately overkilled.

I'd figure an 850 for the 470's and a 1000 for the 480's....leave a little room if ya gonna keep an 800 for PhysX tho I don't think you'll need it.

Sooner or later, I predict Antec,etc will make a case supporting Dual PSUs to run a Tri/Quad SLI set up :lol:

yeah, and then you have to make sure you plug it into 2 different breakers in your house since in the states we normally have 15A per breaker with 120V line, giving 1800w per breaeker

I'd just grab an HD5970 and OC it. Cheaper and better performing than SLI GTX470, though I'm unsure how high an OC you'll need.

the 5970 is 2 slightly downlocked 5870, and lacks the disabled cores of the 5850, so it should be the same at stock as 470 SLI and faster than 5850 CF.

It's the 1600SPs (3200) of the HD5870 with the stock clock of the HD5850. Theoretically it should hit the HD5870 clock levels.

Yep, but the refence cooler is kind of crappy, you want water or aftermarket air to have clocks that can beat the 480 SLI.

I am concerned about this as well I want to run 2 480s and I have a Kingwin 1000w mach 1

AND I ALSO HAVE MY GP'U'S OVERCLOCKED. AND IT RUNS JUST FINE. PSU BARELY GETS WARM.
IM PROBABLY PUSHING OVER 200W FOR THE CPU AND CLOSE TO 600 FOR THE GPU'S. NOT TO MENTION I HAVE LOTS OF OTHER STUFF CUNSUMING POWER.

it could run 1 of those cards but 2 is really pushing it... might be able to but its a gamble and your psu might blow. imo upgrade to a 1k psu and do 2 480's... that will be a beast rig!!!!
