Giants: Citizen Kabuto 2?

No other PC game has ever made me laugh as much as this game. I really would like to see another one.

Video seems to be missing the most important sequels, Arx Fatalis 2, Phantasy Star 5. ;)

Total Annihilation's strengths:

1) True Hands-Off RTS play.

Once you get set up, automation can take over for you and you had the luxury of watching your units go to work and get destroyed, but you could respond to the changing ebb and flow of the game with ease.

2) Huge maps, many many units.

Chris Taylor says he makes games because he likes little things blowing themselves up to tiny bits. With the latest 3rd party mods and patches and good hardware you could have thousands and thousands of little mechs blowing themselves up...marching a long supply line to get to the distant front. A side effect of a huge map is that weapons with long ranges actually have long ranges. 4,000+ unit melees in the late 90's was impressive to everyone who saw them...with aircraft, with debris, with audio, multiplayer as well. Astounding performance and all in 2d that looked 3d.

3) Balanced Resources

With the ability to make energy out of mass and mass out of energy you could set your resource production to match your demands and this contributed to point #1, hands off RTS play..no constant fiddling with your resources, especially if you had large storage for excess.

That's it, that's all you need for essential TA:2 The rest is style, pretty maps and a Commander, or not a Commander (he's just another ultimate weapon, which are always optional)

Supreme Commander violates those three points above in different ways, which is why you get that itchy feeling when you play it and you can say it isn't a sequel at all to TA, it's an homage at best.

The rest of your choices were also surprising and thoughtful, a sophisticated list.
