As Windows 8 is installed on a computer, it provides the default configuration to users. It also provides users various options to customize the OS as per their requirements. Users can also customize Windows 8 operating system to ease their tasks, and to save a decent amount of time.

Every time users try to open any application or program in Windows 8, they are always required to navigate to the Start screen, and search for their desired application. To make things easier for them, users can pin the frequently used applications to the taskbar, or can place the shortcuts at the desktop.

How to Place Computer Icon at the Desktop?

In order to place computer icon at the desktop in Windows 8, step-by-step instructions given below must be followed:
  1. Log on to Windows 8 computer with the administrator or a standard user account.
  2. Click Desktop tile from the Start screen to go to the desktop window.
  3. Once on the desktop screen, right-click anywhere on the blank field.
  4. From the context menu that appears, click Personalize.
  5. On the opened Personalization window, click Change desktop icons from the left pane.
  6. On the Desktop Icon Settings box, check Computer checkbox under Desktop icons section.



  7. Click OK to place the Computer icon at the desktop.
  8. Close Personalization window when done.


  • How to Pin a Specific Application to the Taskbar?
    In order to pin a specific application to the taskbar in Windows 8, step-by-step instructions given below must be followed:
    1. Log on to Windows 8 computer with the administrator or a standard user account.
    2. Click Desktop tile from the Start screen to go to the desktop window.
    3. Once on the desktop screen, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the window.
    4. From the displayed options, click Search.
    5. On the opened Search pane in the right, make sure that Apps category is selected.
    6. On the same pane, type Snipping Tool in Apps field. (For this demonstration)
    7. From the displayed results on Apps window, right-click Snipping Tool.
    8. From the displayed advanced options at the bottom of the window, click Pin to taskbar to pin the selected application to the taskbar.



    9. Close the opened window when done.
