Hey community-- looking to make some improvements to the CPU, RAM, and Motherboard on my current rig and would like to know if the selections I've made are compatible. Any other suggestions would be appreciated as well.

My current system has the following: (Copy pasted CPUID)

I couldn't figure out where to get this information from, but from what I can tell I have four 2 Gig sticks of RAM, at 400MHz. Corsair branded (if that makes a difference).

What I'm looking to get is:

GIGABYTE GA-Z77X-UP4 TH LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with Dual Thunderbolt

Intel Core i7-3770 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 4000 BX80637I73770

CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (4 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B

Is this going to be worth the upgrade? Are these choices compatible with my current GPU, OS, etc? I consider myself a very basic user... Are there other choices out there that are far superior? I've spent a long time looking and I'm afraid I'm not sure where else to turn.

You likely don't need that pricey a MB, and there's little advantage in an i7 over an i5 in most workloads (including gaming). Try a cheap B75 or H77 MB (I take it you won't be doing SLI/CF), and an i5-3470.

Not sure if you are suggesting 2x4GB (8GB) or 4x4GB (16GB). 8GB is plenty.

Main thing to upgrade in a gaming rig is the GPU - the 550Ti is old and slow. Something like a 660, 660Ti, or 7870XT would be ideal.

What PSU do you have.
