Before you start you are going to need a couple of things to begin the process. You will need the following (instructions of how to obtain these are below):
1. A copy of AVG 2014 Free (You can also have the full version, but this one works just as well)
2. An empty and available USB
Now to begin with the step by step process to removing a virus(s) from your computer. (You should keep this tab open on another computer because this does require a reboot)
Alternatively you can skip steps 1 - 4 and click HERE
1. Open your internet browser of choice.
2. Go to google and search "avg antivirus".
3. The first link that should come up will read "free.avg.com" click it
4. Hit download, this will take you to a link where you have to scroll down and hit download on the orange button (the free version, this will bring you to a CNET link, just continue to hit the download that appears on the CNET page).
5. Let your download finish.
6. Open "My Computer".
7. Go to downloads.
8. Drag and drop the AVG Antivirus installer to your flash drive .
9. Restart your computer.
10. On the boot menu during the restart hit the f8 key, if you miss this you can always try again.
11. There should be a menu with 4 different choices (Start windows normally, Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, and Safe Mode with Networking).
12. Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to get to "Safe Mode with networking".
13. Congratulations! You're now in Safe Mode and your done with the hard part.
14. Log in as you normally would on your computer (You will notice a lot of changes to your desktop, this is because Safe Mode only loads the basic windows functions nothing else, this is so that the virus will (hopefully) not be running).
15. Go to "My Computer".
16. Find your flash drive and open it.
17. Run the AVG Antivirus Installer.
18. This will begin the install process, save it to an ideal location that works for you!
19. Run the AVG Antivirus you just installed, this will open a window like this:
20. Normally it will ask you to update the software,do so and wait for it to finish then run it again.
21. Now you have to run a full scan (make sure you check every drive)
22. This will take a while (yes, multiple hours) but once it is done, you will have a list of infections that you can choose to delete/remove (get rid of all of them)
23. There you go! You now have a virus free computer.
24. To get out of safe mode just restart your computer.
