Spellings Are No Longer Checked for Errors in Real-Time in MS Word 2013

According to the default MS Word 2013 configuration, the spellings are checked on the real-time basis when you type a word. This allows you to assess the correct spellings of the words without having to type them completely and then using the backspace button to rectify them.

Although this default configuration consumes a small amount of additional amount of processing and memory, because of its real-time nature, many times the default settings are left intact. Also, it is not recommended that this feature should be turned off in order to save a decent amount of time that you would spend otherwise in typing the spellings in whole, and then rectifying them later.

Assuming that you have not manually modified the settings, if you are facing an issue where the spellings are not checked for errors in the real-time, the reason might be that any other third-party application has done so. There might also be chances that any other user has deliberately disabled the feature for any particular reason.

In either case, you can simply resolve the problem and allow MS Word 2013 to start displaying the spelling errors while the words are typed by following a few simple instructions given below:

  1. Log on to the computer on which MS Word is to be rectified.

  2. Once logged on, initialize the MS Word 2013 application by either double-clicking an existing document, or creating a new one.

  3. On the opened interface, go to the FILE tab.

  4. From the displayed list, click Options option.



  5. On the opened Word Options box, from the left pane, click to select Proofing option.

  6. From the right pane, under the When correcting spelling and grammar in Word section, check the Check spelling as you type checkbox.



  7. Once done, click OK to save the changes.

  8. If needed, restart MS Word 2013 to allow the changes to take effect.
