There is an easy way to find out which graphic card or embedded graphics you have without having to open the computer up. this method does not require downloading additional software. DxDiag is an external command that is good for finding out what type of graphic card you have. Furthermore it will also tell you the amount of video ram (vram).
Windows XP:
Click on the "start" and then click on "run". type "dxdiag" in the box. Once the application opens navigate to the Display tab.
Windows 7 / 8 / 8.1:
press the windows key on your keyboard and then search for "dxdiag" and run the application. Once the application opens navigate to the Display tab.
Other more accurate method:
Theres also a method that involves downloading software but it is much more accurate. Go ahead and download GPU-Z. Once downloaded run it. You will find a lot of advanced info in there. What you are looking for is "name" and "memory size". [link]
Linux (including ubuntu and fedora):
Firstly open up terminal by using a combination of keys on your keyboard (ctrl+alt+t) and type "bysudo lshw -C video" in the terminal window.
