There are two ways mentioned here.
1. Use the free version of Belarc Advisor (for personal use - home): http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html
This free program should be manually updated on a monthly basis. Running this program needs full Admin rights and will prompt you for updates.
2. Use the free version of SPECCY (for personal use - home): http://www.piriform.com/speccy
This free program should be manually updated on a monthly basis. You can also sign up for email notification to inform you when new versions are released. Running this program needs full Admin rights and will prompt you for updates.
The programs mentioned above will give you a lot of detailed information about what's inside your computer (except for the Power Supply).
