How to set up and use Asus RT-AC66U router Download Manager to download and manage Bit Torrent files

After owning the Asus RT-AC66U router for nearly a year, recently I discovered my favorite feature to date with it. Asus recently released an upgrade (the RT-AC68U) to the already best router on the market in the RT-AC66U, but the RT-AC66U is still VERY capable and a wonderful router in every category. The feature allowing you to connect external USB storage to it and using that storage to house all of your bit torrent downloads is a very useful feature, and since I "discovery" of it, I have used it on nearly a daily basis. Coupled with thepiratebay.se I have managed to stockpile a collection of movie classics in very little time. In this tutorial, I will give step by step instructions on how to set up your Asus RT-AC66U router to serve as your bit torrent downloader/manager. Whether you prefer downloading music, movies, or for downloading and viewing "naughty" movies (shame on you! LOL), I am sure that owners of the Asus RT-AC66U router will find this tutorial and the abilities that it will give you to be very useful.

1. First of all, you need to have your Asus RT-AC66U router set up and internet connected. This should be accomplished by using the instructions that came with your router.

2. You need an acceptable form of storage. While it is possible (as I have done it) to use a USB flash drive, you will find that a larger form of storage is much preferred. I currently have a WD 1TB external hard drive attached to the RT-AC66U via one of the USB 2.0 ports located in the back of the router.

3. After you have attached the external hard drive to the RT-AC66U, go to the USB Applications tab located on the left of the router home page. The home page and the USB Applications tab are shown in the diagram located at this link:

4. After going to the USB Applications tab, scroll down the screen until you see Download Master. It is the last option on the screen. Click on the "Install" button. It takes several minutes to install. What you are actually installing is the necessary software and folders onto your external hard drive.

5. Once the "Install" completes, you are ready to start using your router to download and view bit torrent movies! The best site that I have found is thepiratebay.se The process to download your desired file(s) is simple. First, go to thepiratebay.se and enter the search criteria for what you are wanting to download. Once you have a list of files, I suggest clicking on the SE that is located at the top of the column for "Seeders". This will list the files from greatest to least amount of people who are "seeding" the file. The more seeders per file, typically the faster your file will download.

6. Once you have located the file that you want to download, right-click on the little magnet that you see directly under the file name. This will give you the option to "Copy Link Location". Be careful not to click on the option to "Copy Image Location", as this is an easy mistake to make. (I have done it several times myself. DUH!)

7. Now that you have copied the link location, you will want to paste it into the "Add" box located on the Asus Download Master home page. You get to the Asus Download Master home page simply by going to the router home page (usually just type in 192.168.1.1 in your browser search bar, then going to the USB Applications tab. It is the same link that you clicked on the download the Download Master in Step 3, only now you will be opening the Download Master instead of installing it.) Below is a link to what the Download Master screen will look like. Simply click the "Add" button located near the top and paste the "Copied Link Location" into it, then click "Apply" at the bottom of your screen.

8. Congratulations! You have just downloaded your first bit torrent file! Depending on file size, it may take a while to download. But when it does, simply go to AiCloud located on the main screen of your RT-AC66U's home page, then scroll down to Cloud Disk. You should have set up your AiCloud by now and can actually view/listen to all of the bit torrent files anywhere you have access to the internet by using the steps that I have given above. If you haven't set up your AiCloud, follow instructions that came with your router. Perhaps I should write a tutorial on how to do that as well. LOL

Happy downloading everyone!
