Compatibility Mode in Windows 8

Compatibility mode is a feature in Windows 8/Windows 8.1 using which you can install and/or run the programs that were originally designed and developed for the earlier versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems.

Running the earlier versions of applications in Windows 8 using the compatibility mode allows you to use the latest operating system while keeping the legacy programs intact on their computers fully functional and running even if their updated and Windows 8 compatible versions are no longer developed.

All in all, if you find any application that is not getting installed or executed in Windows 8/Windows 8.1 which was working fine in the earlier versions of operating systems, you can follow the steps given below to initialize the compatibility mode and install or execute the application:

Note: Although there are also a few other ways to use the compatibility mode in Windows 8/8.1 where the methods may vary for installation and execution of the programs, the process described in this tutorial is common for both purposes.

■Log on to the Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer using the administrator account.
■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
■Once on the desktop screen, locate the target executable file that you want to run in the compatibility mode.
    ■Once located, right-click the file.
■From the context menu that appears, click the Troubleshoot compatibility option.

■Wait till the program initializes successfully, and if it does, the compatibility troubleshooter has done its task successfully.
■From this point onwards, you can either continue with the installation process of the application, or you can close the installation wizard to get back to the previous interface. (The latter is used in this demonstration.).
