Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 8

This Tutorial addresses:
  • IE9
  • Internet Explorer
  • Windows 8
By default Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11 are already installed on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 respectively. If you try to install Internet Explorer 9 on any of these operating systems, you will receive a message saying that Internet Explorer 9 is already installed on the computer.

Internet Explorer 10 and Internet Explorer 11 have latest modifications, and you should not be looking for any earlier version of the program. However, if you still want to use the legacy version of the application, there is a workaround in which you can use either of these latest versions of Internet Explorer applications in compatibility mode which would give you the ambience of Internet Explorer 9 while you surf the Internet.

You are bound to go for a workaround if you want to have Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 8 because the full-fledged and individual IE9 program is not supported by Windows 8/Windows 8.1 whatsoever.

Here is how you can use Internet Explorer 10 or Internet Explorer 11 as Internet Explorer 9 in Windows 8 over Windows 8.1 respectively:

  1. Log on to the Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 computer. (Windows 8.1 and Internet Explorer 11 are used in this demonstration.).
  2. From the Start screen, click the Internet Explorer tile to initialize the program.

  3. Once the interface opens up, press the F12 key on the keyboard to trigger the developer options that are integrated within the application.
  4. Once the developer options are visible at the bottom of the Internet Explorer interface, from the left section, click the Emulation option to go to the Emulation interface. Alternatively you can also click Ctrl+8 simultaneously to go to the same interface.

  5. Under the Mode section, choose the Windows Phone option from the Browser profile drop-down list.

  6. Once this is done, choose Internet Explorer 9 from the User agent string drop-down list.

  7. As soon as you will choose the above mentioned option, you will get the legacy interface and resolution, and you can start using the IE10 or IE11 as IE9.

  • Note: Make sure that you do not close the developer options interface or else the interface would turn back to the default which is either Internet Explorer 10 or Internet Explorer 11 depending upon the edition of your Windows 8 operating system. In order to use the Internet Explorer 9 interface on a full-screen mode, you can click the Unpin button available at the top right corner of the interface, and once the developer options interface is unpinned, you can minimize it and can freely work on the main Internet Explorer interface.
