Add an Item to Start in Windows 8/Windows 8.1

Because of the Metro UI that has been introduced with the release of Microsoft Windows 8, many people who are used to the Start menu might face difficulties while locating the software applications, or other apps while using this latest OS.

In order to overcome the frustration and hassle that majority of users face while finding the required programs in Windows 8/8.1, it is recommended that the frequently used programs must be added to the Start screen so that they can become easily accessible.

In order to add any desired item to the Start screen, you must follow the steps given below:

    ■Log on to the Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer using any account.
    ■On the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
    ■Once on the desktop window, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen.
    ■From the displayed Charms bar, click Search.

    ■From the Search pane that appears in the right, in the available field, type the name of the program that you wish to add to the Start screen. (Snipping Tool is used in this demonstration.)
    ■Once the program appears in the list, right-click the program.
    ■From the displayed context menu, click Pin to Start.

    ■You can verify if the program has been successfully added to the Start screen by hovering the mouse to the bottom right corner of the window again, and clicking the Start icon this time.
    ■Once you are on the Start screen, scroll the window horizontally till you see the added program.

10. In order to remove the program from the Start screen, right-click the program.
11. From the contextual options that are displayed at the bottom of the screen, click Unpin from Start.
