Windows 8/Windows 8.1 offers a very straightforward method of copying the contents of any CD or DVD to local hard disk drive. All you need to do is to right-click the CD/DVD icon that is present in the ‘This PC’ window, and then click the Copy option to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Once the contents are copied, you can go to the target location where you want to save the contents, right -click anywhere inside the target folder, and click the Paste option from the context menu. As soon as you will click the Paste option, a folder with the name of the CD/DVD will automatically be created, and all the contents of the optical media will be saved inside the folder.
Although the above discussed method is very simple and straightforward when it comes to just copying the contents of the CD/DVD, the correct and sophisticated way of copying the contents to your local hard disk drive is by creating a mirror image of the optical media.
You can use any ISO creating tool that you can download from the Internet to create an ISO image of the CD/DVD. The added advantage of creating an ISO image of any existing physical optical media is that if the CD/DVD is bootable, the image that you create using any third-party image creation tool will also become a bootable ISO.

■Make sure that the target CD/DVD whose copy you want to make in Windows 8/Windows 8.1 is properly inserted in the CD/DVD drive of the computer.
■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
■Once on the desktop window, click the File Explorer icon from the taskbar.
■On the opened This PC window, right-click the icon of the CD/DVD drive in which you have inserted the target optical media.
■From the context menu that appears, go to UltraISO and from the submenu that appears, click Create CD/DVD image.
■On the ISO File Save As box, in the File name field, specify a file name for the ISO image that you are about to create.
■You can also use the navigation buttons present at the top of the box to browse and locate the target location where you want to save the image file.
■Once done, click Save to start the ISO image creation process.
