How to Switch Users in Windows 8?

This Tutorial addresses:
  • Apps
  • Windows 8
  • User Accounts
The concept of switching between the user accounts was first introduced with the release of Microsoft Windows XP, and since then the feature has travelled along with all the higher versions of the operating systems such as Windows Vista, Windows 7, and now in Windows 8/Windows 8.1.

Switching between the user accounts allows the users to keep their files and contents open and running even when they hand over the computer for some time to the other users who want to log on using their own account credentials. Because of this, the feature is widely used by majority of Windows users.

However, since the interface of Windows 8 is slightly different than that of Windows 7, you, as a new Windows 8 user, may find it challenging to switch between the user accounts. In this tutorial, you will learn how to do so.

  1. Assuming that you are already logged on to Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer and are on your desktop window, hover mouse to the bottom right corner of the screen.
  2. From the displayed Charms bar, click the Start icon.

  3. Once on the Start screen, click the name of the user account using which you are logged on from the top right corner of the window.
  4. From the displayed options, click the name of the other user account to which you want to switch.

  5. If the other user account is password protected, you must provide the correct password on the opened window to logon to the other account.
