Where Can I Find Services in Windows 8?

This Tutorial addresses:
  • Apps
  • Windows 8
  • Operating Systems
  • Microsoft
Just like other Microsoft Windows operating systems, even Windows 8/Windows 8.1 also heavily relies upon the services that run in the background. Although services are very important for any Microsoft-based operating system in order to allow the users to experience flawless and smooth functioning, many times it is strongly suggested to permanently stop the unwanted services in order to increase the performance of the OS.

The unwanted services are the ones whose corresponding features are not used by the users at all. For example, if you are using Windows 8/Windows 8.1 at your home and you do not own a printer, it is not necessary to keep the Print Spooler service running in the background. If you permanently stop the Print Spooler service, the overall booting time of the computer would be decreased while increasing the system performance at the same time.

Although it is completely up to your personal and individual choice as which service you want to stop and which one you want to leave intact and running, by following the steps given in this tutorial, you will be able to access the Services snap-in/interface, and manage desired services as needed.

  1. Log on to the Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer with the administrator account.
  2. From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
  3. Once on the desktop window, right click the taskbar from the bottom of the screen.
  4. From the context menu that appears, click Task Manager.

  5. On the opened Task Manager box, click the More details button from the bottom.

  6. From the expanded interface, click the Services tab.
  7. From the displayed interface, click the Open Services option from the bottom.

  8. From the opened Services snap-in, double-click the unwanted service. (Print Spooler service is used in this demonstration.)

  9. On the opened Print Spooler Properties box, make sure that the General tab is selected.

  • 10. Click the Stop button under the Service status section.
    11. Once done, choose Disabled from the Startup type drop-down list.

    12. Finally click OK to save the changes that you have made.
    13. In order to allow the changes to take effect, you might be required to restart the computer.
