Enable CMD as Admin in Windows 8/Windows 8.1

While working with Windows 8.1, there are two ways of initializing the command prompt as administrator, whereas there is one easy way to initialize the CMD window as admin in Windows 8.

In this tutorial you will learn both the ways to initialize the command prompt as admin for Windows 8.1, and among the two ways, one method can be used to run the command prompt as administrator in Windows 8 as well.

Here is how it is done:

Running CMD as Administrator in Windows 8/Windows 8.1

    ■Log on to the Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 computer using any account.
    ■From the Start screen, hover mouse to the bottom-right corner of the window.
    ■From the displayed Charms bar, click Search.

    ■On the opened Search pane in the right, in the available field, type CMD.
    ■From the available list that is generated, right-click Command Prompt.
    ■From the context menu that appears, click Run as administrator.

    ■On the User Account Control confirmation box, click Yes to provide your consent to continue.


Note: If you are logged on as a standard (non-administrator) user account, you might need to provide the credentials of the administrator account in order to proceed.
Running CMD as Administrator in Windows 8.1

    ■Log on to the Windows 8.1 computer using any account.
    ■From the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.
    ■On the desktop screen, right-click the Windows icon from the bottom-left corner.
    ■From the context menu that appears, click Command Prompt (Admin).
