User Account Control Doesn’t Allow to Enter Password/Click Yes in Windows 8/Windows 8.1

This Tutorial addresses:
  • Windows 8
  • Computers
  • Command Prompt
User Account Control always works perfectly well and allows the users to either provide the administrator password (in case of prompt for credentials) or click the Yes button (in case of prompt for consent) before the users can perform any administrative task on the computer. If your copy of Windows 8/Windows 8.1 doesn’t allow you to provide the password or click Yes when the UAC confirmation box is displayed, it means that there is some issue with the currently logged on user.

In this situation, you can create a new user but for that you must enable the built-in Administrator account by going to the external command prompt, and then enabling the account.

You can get the above task done by following the steps given below:

  1. Log on to Windows 8/Windows 8.1 using any account.
  2. From the Start screen, hover mouse to the bottom-right corner of the window.
  3. From the displayed Charms bar, click Search from the top.
  4. In the available field in the Search pane that comes up in the right, type CMD.
  5. From the available options, click Command Prompt.
  6. In the opened command window, type SHUTDOWN /R /O -T 00 and press Enter.

  7. Wait till the computer restarts, and the advanced boot options are displayed.
  8. From the opened Choose an option window, click Troubleshoot > Advanced options, and then click Command Prompt.

  9. Wait till the computer restarts.

  • 10. On the next window that comes up after the computer restarts, in the available field, type the password for the current user account.
    11. Press Enter to continue.
    12. In the opened Administrator: X:\windows\system32\cmd.exe command window, type NET USER ADMINISTRATOR /ACTIVE:YES and press Enter to enable the built-in Administrator account.
    13. Once done, type EXIT in the command window and press Enter.

    14. Back on the Choose an option window, click Troubleshoot > Advanced options, and this time click Startup Settings.

    15. From the Startup Settings window, click Restart.

    16. After the Windows restarts and the Startup Settings window comes up again, press 4 on the keyboard to start Windows 8/Windows 8.1 in the Safe Mode.

    17. After the computer starts in Safe Mode, from the displayed list of users, click Administrator to log on to the computer using the built-in Administrator account.

    18. Once you are logged in using the built-in Administrator account, you can remove the old account and create a new one that has no such errors in it.
