On the other hand, if you have purchased a laptop computer that has Windows 8/Windows 8.1 already installed in it, you are required to create the restore discs by purchasing blank DVDs and running the built-in Windows 8/Windows 8.1 restore disc creation wizard. Since the restore disc creation is just one-time process, and the wizard automatically gets deleted as soon as you create the restore DVDs, it is important that you create multiple backups of the discs in order to avoid future troubles.
In your case, if both the above situations are false, and you have lost the driver installation/Windows restore discs, you are required to download and install the appropriate audio driver (or any other device driver) that is missing. You can only download the correct drivers for the hardware devices on the computer if you know the exact model number of the motherboard and/or the model and make of the particular device whose driver you want to install.
You can avoid all the above troubles by using an open source and free tool named Driver Pack Solution. Since the Driver Pack Solution has its own built-in driver database, as soon as you insert its DVD and run the software, it automatically detects the available hardware and installs appropriate driver without any further user intervention.
The Driver Pack Solution does not only install the Realtek audio driver, but it is capable of detecting and installing most of the available hardware from almost every vendor.
Since the Driver Pack Solution is absolutely free, you can download it and run its lite version that automatically downloads the latest device drivers from the online database.
Here is how you can download and run the Driver Pack Solution on your computer.
1. Log on to Windows 8/Windows 8.1 using any account.
2. Once logged on, from the Start screen, open your favorite browser, (ex: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome)
3. On the browser’s address bar type HTTP://DRP.SU/DOWNLOAD.HTM and press Enter.
4. From the opened interface, click the Download button under DriverPack Solution 13 Lite.

5. If prompt by Opening DRPSu 13-Lite.exe window, click Save File.

6. Double-click the DRPSu13-Lite.exe file to and follow on-screen instructions to install the software.

7. From the desktop screen, right-click the software icon.
8. Click Run as Administrator from the displayed context menu.

9. Once initialized, let the application search the missing drivers, download them and install them on the computer. (You may need to provide appropriate inputs if and when required)
