This Tutorial addresses:
  • Windows 8
  • Bing
  • Desktops
Bing Desktop, being an optimized and sophisticated search tool, can be important for many home users and professionals. When you install the application on your Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer, by default its icon is placed right on the desktop screen from where it can be accessed to change the wallpapers, configure the automatic wallpaper changing schedule, search the desired topics online, etc.

Although with such good features Bing Desktop should not be uninstalled from the computer, sometimes it might be important for you to remove it for some testing purposes or any other reason. If this is the case with you, instead of uninstalling the entire software from the computer altogether, you can just disable it on Windows 8/Windows 8.1. When Bing Desktop is disabled, it no longer initializes during the system start-up, and therefore you can perform the desired tasks easily.

Once you are done with the things, you can re-enable the application easily without having to install the software all over again.

Here is how you can disable Bing Desktop from your Windows 8/Windows 8.1 computer:

  1. Log on to Windows 8/Windows 8.1 using the administrator account.
  2. On the Start screen, press Windows + R keys to open the Run command box.
  3. In the Run command box, type MSCONFIG in the available field, and press Enter.

  4. On the System Configuration box, go to the Startup tab.
  5. From the displayed interface, click Open Task Manager.

  6. From the Task Manager window, make sure that the Startup tab is selected.
  7. From the displayed list of applications, click to select Bing Desktop Application.

  8. Once selected, from the bottom-right corner, click the Disable button.

  9. Once done, close the opened interface and restart the computer to allow the changes to take effect.
