Delete Google Maps Location History

This Tutorial addresses:
  • Android
  • Smartphones
  • Google
If you are a regular user of Google Maps and you use your Android smartphone to locate various places to visit, it is likely that your instance of Google Maps has saved location history in its cache.

With the saved location history, you can know and locate the already visited places, which is further helpful in many different ways. However, there might also be instances where you do not want Google Maps to show where you have been earlier. For example, if you plan to sell your cellphone to someone or if you wish to hand it over to any of your friends for temporary use, you might want to remove the traces of the visited or searched places from Google Maps.

The process of deleting Google Maps location history is simple. Here is how you can get it done:

  1. Turn on your Android smartphone.
  2. Tap the menu icon to go to the apps list.

  3. Locate and tap the Maps app icon to launch the Google map.

  4. On the Home page, tap the Menu icon (icon with the three horizontal lines) from the bottom-left corner.

  5. From the available options, tap Settings.

  6. Tap the Google location settings option from the Settings interface.

  7. Once the Location interface opens up, ensure that the Location toggle button is enabled.
  8. Under the LOCATION SERVICES section, tap the Google Location Reporting option.

  9. When the Google location settings interface appears, tap the Location History option under your email address.

  10. Finally, on the Location History interface, tap the DELETE LOCATION HISTORY button from the bottom to delete the Google maps location history.
