Usually, when you stream TV shows via Netflix on a Roku device, your account will have things set up so that a new episode starts to autoplay as soon as the old one is finished. This is great if you have a whole day to spend watching TV. However, if you’re tired of your Netflix autoplay function causing you to binge watch shows instead of being productive, here’s how you can shut the function off on your Roku device.

Step 1
The easiest way to change the function on your Netflix account is not via the menus on your Roku device, but through Netflix.com. Grab your computer, direct your browser to the Netflix website, and log into your account.

Step 2
Look for the “Your Profile” category on your account page. Once you’ve found it, select “Playback settings” from the list. It will be in the left-hand column.

Step 3
At the bottom of the next menu, you’ll see a “Preferences” section with a checkbox for “Play next episode automatically.” Uncheck the option to turn off Netflix autoplay, and click save. This should deactivate the autoplay function across all of your streaming supported devices including your Roku.

Recap
Autoplay can be a convenient way to keep the ball rolling on an endless Netflix TV show marathon. However, if you feel like you’ve been losing productivity because of the function (“Netflix wants me to watch another, I can’t argue!”), the steps above can be easily used to shut it off on all of the devices you use to access Netflix.
