Use Airplane Mode on Your Laptop with Windows 8

This Tutorial addresses:
  • Laptops
  • Windows 8
  • Windows
With the Airplane Mode that is available in Windows 8, you can put your laptop PC in the offline mode and can still use it to work on several applications that the computer may have. When your laptop is used in Airplane Mode, it can no longer be connected to the Internet, and neither can it be used to initialize the voice or video calls using any cellular data plan or the Internet.

You might want to put your laptop to the Airplane Mode when you are travelling by air, or you are at a place where no external connectivity is allowed.

Since you can use all the applications, listen to the music, and/or watch the videos even if your Windows 8 laptop is set to Airplane Mode, you can utilize the computer at its full.

Here is how you can use the Airplane Mode in your Windows 8 laptop:

  1. Log on to your Windows 8 laptop.
  2. Once you are on the Start screen, click the Desktop tile.

  3. From the desktop window, hover mouse to the bottom-right corner of the window.
  4. From the displayed Charms bar, click Settings.

  5. From the lower section of the Settings pane that comes up, click the available Networks icon.

  6. Once the Networks pane appears, move the Airplane Mode button from left to right to put your laptop in the Airplane Mode.

  7. Once this is done, you can click anywhere on the screen to make the Networks pane disappear.

  • Note: In order to turn off the Airplane Mode on your Windows 8 laptop, you must follow the steps given about, while moving the Airplane Mode button from right to left when on step 5.
