Being a smartphone user, you would obviously love to connect your phone to a laptop or desktop computer in order to transfer data. Although connecting a smartphone to a Windows 8 computer is not that much of a hassle, it might be a bit tricky when it comes to picking the up the appropriate option after the phone is physically connected to the PC.

It is always recommended that the smartphone must be connected to the PC under the required mode. This means, you must pick the correct connection option on your Android phone after the USB data cable connects the two devices physically.

For example, if you want to connect your smartphone to a PC just for charging purpose, you should choose Charge only from the displayed options. Likewise, if you want to transfer media files such as video or audio to your smartphone, the Media device (MTP) option should be selected.

Here is how you can connect your smartphone to a Windows 8 laptop and choose the best option while connecting:

  1. Turn on Android smartphone by pressing the power button.
  2. Connect the phone to your Windows 8 PC using the data cable that was shipped along with the phone.
  3. Once connected, on your smartphone, swipe your finger from top to down on the screen to open the notification tray.
  4. Under the Notifications section, tap the Connected as a media device option.

Note: Depending upon the brand and manufacturing of the smartphone, there might be other options available under the Notifications section. For example Build-in-CD-ROM, USB storage or Charge only.
  5. Once the USB computer connection window opens up, tap to select the appropriate option from the displayed list.
