How to Shut Down Windows 8 Laptop

Windows 8 has a completely new interface when compared with Windows 7. Because of the changed interface, many people find it difficult to locate even the most commonly used icons, features, and/or options.

One such option in Windows 8 that most people are unable to locate is the Shut Down button. Since the Shut Down option is not at its regular location, i.e. in the Start menu as even the Start button is missing, many people face hard time shutting down their Windows 8 desktop computers and laptops.

Considering the above issues, this tutorial focuses on explaining the process of shutting down a Windows 8 computer in a few simple steps.

Here is how:

  1. It is assumed that your Window 8 laptop is already powered on.
    Note: Make sure that you have saved all your unsaved data before shutting down the laptop.
  2. On the desktop window, hover mouse to the top-right or bottom-right corner of the screen.
  3. From the displayed Charms bar, click Settings.

  4. From the lower section of the Settings pane at the right, click Power.

  5. From the displayed options, click Shut down in order to turn off your Windows 8 laptop/desktop.


  • Note: The process of shutting down Windows 8 is identical for both laptop PCs and desktop computers.
