When you configure your Windows 8 laptop to work as a hotspot device, all the devices that you connect to it can share a single Internet connection that your Windows 8 laptop has.
Here is how you can turn your Windows 8 laptop into a hotspot:
- Log on to your Windows 8 laptop with an administrative account and go to the desktop window.
- On the desktop screen, press the Windows + R keys combination to open the Run box.
- In the Open field type NCPA.CPL and click OK on the Run box to open Network Connections.

Note: Here ssid is the name of the wireless network that you want to set (you can use any name of your choice as long as it does not contain any spaces in between), and key is the password that you want to specify for the new wireless network, and which users must provide before they can connect to your hotspot.
- Once the above setup is complete, you can start connecting other wireless devices to the created hotspot in order to share a common Internet connection.
