Step 1: Make sure to back up all of your personal files. A system restore will return your Dell Windows 8 laptop to factory settings, which means that anything that wasn’t on your system when you bought it will be lost. Back up your data to avoid losing any of your important documents.
Step 2: Plug your laptop into the AC adapter, just to make sure it doesn’t run out of battery while going through the restore process. Then restart your system from the Settings menu.
Step 3: When you Dell laptop boots up in Windows 8, you generally get three options at the start screen: “Continue” to your desktop, “Troubleshoot,” and “Turn off your PC.” Select the middle option to bring up a second menu with numerous options for refreshing, resetting, and backing up your computer.
Step 4: Provided that you’ve already saved your files, select “Reset Your PC” from the list. Click “Next” on the following menus until your computer goes ahead and completes a system restore.
Recap
Once you’ve reset your Dell Windows 8 laptop to factory settings, you can go about putting your files back where they belong. If you are selling or returning the laptop, now is the perfect time to do that. Either way, your system should be completely free of personal files and should have the exact same software settings as it did when you first pulled it out of the box!
