The art of requesting for help!

Hello and welcome to Tom's!

A vast community with numerous experts from varied fields, determined to help you out, and guide you through, need a bit of help from you side, which's in the form of a clearly laid out question/ doubt/ query/ discussion in the thread.

So how to go about it? Well, that's what this tutorial is aimed at, for first time posters, and new members of the community. This will not only help the experts but will also provide asker with to-the-point solutions, specific to the issue.

Here is a quick guide on how to frame a question, a basic structure indeed:

  • Give it a suitable title, in the form of a phrase or question, but don't include the whole question or doubt in it, we have the description section for that purpose. Make it crisp and precise, like a news headline.

Elaborate on your issue, provide some background, be specific to the topic but as extensive on the problem as you can be. Make sure to put any important event relative to the question, for example, if your GPU is acting weird, but after a particular incident, make sure to include that.

Post your system specs, this is very much essential for any hardware related query, or even seemingly software related ones, like unwanted lags even with top notch hardware. Include Motherboard, CPU, PSU, GPU, and any other component of importance relative to your question, like RAM or HDD, etc.
