Apple added a slew of cool new features with the recent OS X Yosemite update, as well as giving the operating system a sleek makeover. However, a few things have remained more or less the same, such as where you can go to check for App Store updates. Use the steps below to keep your operating system and apps consistently up to date.

Step 1
On your Mac, click the Apple icon at the top left-hand corner of the screen. From the dropdown menu, select “App Store.” The Apple App Store will launch on your system.

Step 2
Select the App Store icon from the dock, and wait for the store to load. Once it does, look toward the top of the store menu. There should be five icons there: Featured, Top Charts, Categories, Purchases, and Updates. If there are any updates waiting for your operating system or apps, there will be a small number in a circle next to the Updates icon.

Step 3
Click on the Updates tab and Apple will tell you which software upgrades or program updates your system needs. Any time you open this page, it will also do a search for new updates, so it’s worth checking—even if there isn’t a number next to the updates tab in your App Store menu.

Recap
Keeping your computer updated is important to make sure that it continues to perform at the highest level. This is especially true with Macs, since Apple is consistently updating operating systems and adding cool new features that you will want to use. Use the steps above to keep on top of these updates.
