Welcome to this guide on how to choose the best cpu and gpu for your gaming needs.
This guide will be made with budgets and game settings in mind. (USD only guide and talking about cpu and gpu only)

PC gaming has changes alot over the years with games demanding more power and return we get better graphics and framerates from the first half life to much newer games like farcry 4.

Games have changed for the better with better ai, stunning graphics, and better performance but with the days flying by games get more aggressive on what they need to run great. Don't know what to choose to run them at decent settings is what this guide is made for so lets start with some budget options then some the best hardware to max games out.
we went from this (Half life 2)

to this in a decade (Crysis 3)

(settings are if running a newer AAA title)

Cpus_______________________________________________________________________

Intel Pentium G3258
Avg price: $70-$75
a decent cpu for streaming video from netflix, youtube or using it for office, thanks to it being a unlocked cpu it can be overclocked and get big performance gains to it so it can handle light gaming were heavy gaming is a bad choice due to it stuttering quite a lot
Recommend: No it isn't recommend for gaming as newer titles are heavy on cpus but if using for light gaming then by all means get it if your gonna overclock it

AMD FX-6300
avg price $90-$100
Once a good cpu in its time no longer can it run newer games with decent fps if the game doesn't take advantage of more cores, even when overclocked barely can catch a i3 but it out performs one in muti threads games and programs.
recommend: no, there isn't many games that take advantage of more cores better to have better single core performance then more cores in recent titles.

Amd 860k
avg price $70-$75/
best amd cpu out for gaming beating the fx cpus to some degree thanks to its better single core performance but not in games that use more than 4 threads .
recommend: yes for a very low price point and for good performance.

intel i3 4150
avg price $103-$110
Very good cpu for mid range gaming like the amd above but a bit higher price at the cost of better performance.
Recommend: yes very decent cpu should have no problem running games on med-high if paired with a good gpu.

AMD FX-8350
avg price $150-$170/ a very good cpu for render machines but like the fx 6300 lacks in games that favor faster cores than more cores a mild overclock can reach levels of performance of a i3 in gaming but requires a good motherboard. Still a pretty decent cpu the best of the fx lineup for now
Recommend: for gaming no too close in price to a i5 and to get good performance must be overclocked making the cost for the hardware higher.

AMD FX-9590
avg price $200-$210
this cpu is not a very good choice one bit because total investment in it will be high from a better liquid cooler and motherboard but decent in gaming
recommend: a huge NO not worth it at all considering a fx-8350 can reach same levels of performance for cheaper

Intel Core i5-4460
avg price $170-$180
a very good cpu for gaming for cores make this cpu very great and with its single core performance it has no problem with high being able to stretch to ultra in most titles
recommend: yes it performs nicely and is a good choice for just gaming

Intel Core i5-4690K
avg price $200-$240
a overclock able cpu ready to overclock to a high 4.4ghz when your ready i recommend it because the performance it brings is very huge you have the power to overclock when you need it and is more future proof thanks to it
recommend: Full recommendation performance is excellent and doesn't bottleneck the newest gpus around can even handle sli or crossfire but unlike the fx cpus it doesn't use as much power nor do you have to spend $170 or more for a decent overclock-able motherboard

Intel Xeon E3-1231 V3
avg price $240-250
very good cpu for gaming it is a cheap alternative to a i7 but doesn't offer a igpu which for most part is a good thing since it will be cooler and most people use a dedicated gpu paired with higher end cpus
recommend:yes the price, the 8 threads and its very good single core performance make this a very good buy

Intel Core i7-4770
avg price $290-320
while a good cpu it isnt a very smart choice in buying it since the xeon above has same performance but without a igpu
recommend:Not one bit recommended save your self some money and get the xeon above

Intel Core i7-4770K
avg price $330-$350
a good cpu but cost more than than the 4790k while overclock-able it has been stated quite a few times it cant reach a high overclock
recommend: no better to get a i7 4690k

Intel Core i7-4790K
avg price $310-$330
a way better overclocker than a 4770k also has a higher base clock than it and most of these i7 processors can reach 5.0ghz quite easily making it a huge better buy
recommend:A huge yes this cpu will run just about anything at ultra if your gpu is powerful enough, the speed from this cpu is very large buying one won't ever make you regret it
