In Windows 8.1, if you had multiple monitors on 'Extend' mode and wanted different wallpaper on each monitor, you could right-click the desktop, choose personalise, find the wallpaper you wanted, then right-click and choose 'Set for Monitor 1' or 'Set for Monitor 2'.

That was thanks to the Desktop Background option in control panel. However, Microsoft transferred the desktop background feature to the modern Settings panel in Windows 10. This doesn't allow you to set different backgrounds for different screens.

However, the old interface can still be accessed without 3rd party tools. I don't know if Microsoft are going to patch this or add it back into the Control Panel, but it is still posssible to find it.

If you want to create a shortcut so you can get back to it easily later, right-click your desktop (or wherever you want to make the new shortcut) and when it asks for the location, copy this exactly:

C:\Windows\System32\control.exe /name Microsoft.Personalization /page pageWallpaper

If your Windows installation isn't on the C drive, replace C: with the correct drive letter.

Press next on the shortcut screen, and you can call it whatever you want to, but it might have 'control' come up as default. Finish the wizard, then double-click the shortcut, which, you will see, has the old Control Panel icon, and you should see the Desktop background screen from Windows 8.1. Find the wallpapers you want (as a shortcut, I have a 'Wallpaper' folder) and then right-click the one you want, and select either:

  • Set for all monitors
    Set for monitor 1
    Set for monitor 2
And so on depending on the no. of monitors you have

If you would prefer visual instructions on creating the shortcut, I have made one here: http://imgur.com/a/S7Mef (just pictures)

I hope this helped. Soon, it might not work as MS might patch it, or (hopefully) add it back in to Control Panel or implement the feature into the modern settings app.
