ADVISORY WARNING FOR MY PROTECTION, AND YOUR OWN!!!! I am not responsible for any damages, use this information at your own risk, and never run a power supply without nothing pulling power from it, this trick requires that you at least always have something being used, because running a power supply without any load could burn it up.

You own an HP small form PC, and you wanna pop a decent video card in that inconveniently designed motherboard, but your juice is limited, and has no other available options. So what do you do? you have a decent video card laying around, but your stuck with that low wattage factory power supply, and no option of upgrade in sight.

If you don't already have an extra power supply, you can find one for around $20 on sites like Ebay, it doesn't need to be fancy anyhow, after all it is HP. You will also need a Power supply jumper switch to go with it, and a molex to 6 or 8 pin connector. While it is possible to use a paper clip to run the power supply without a motherboard connection, a switch is the more logical choice. You now find yourself with a stand alone power unit, that can power your gpu separately. Basically what you are doing is using a power supply without it being connected to your motherboard, by using a trick which allows the PSU to run, using only the connections you need. I decided to share this short fix, since i too used this method as an easy work around. Also, you will need to make a small modification to fit a decent sized card. Cut a small square out of the back mounting brackets so that your card will easily, that also means the top metal part that touches the pc cover, and you will have to leave the top off unless you are willing to also modify it as well. Just remove the brackets, then cut the rest out making it an empty square.

The photo is of an HP 6000 SFF Pro, i am using this PC because it is the same as mine, but i am sure it would work with other small form HP systems.
