Steps to Run Memory Diagnostic Tool to test bad RAM

One of the reason for computer lagging is bad physical memory which needs to be tested for the better performance of the system. The best way to diagnose the RAM is run Windows inbuilt utility known as Memory Diagnostic Tool. In this article, I will elaborate steps on how to run windows memory diagnostic tool.

Run Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool

Step 1. To open memory diagnostic utility in Windows 7, 8, 8.1, 10, type mdsched.exe in the search box then press enter.

Step 2. A new window will open which gives two options:

1. Restart now and check for problems: This option requires you to restart the system right away so that memory diagnostic software will perform memory check. But make sure all your open documents are closed and saved so as to avoid data loss.

2. Check for problems the next time I start my computer: If your computer is busy in some other task then you can opt for this option. This option enables you to check for problems when next time the system is started.

Step 3. When the system reboots, Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool automatically starts checking for memory problems. The application displays the memory status as shown in the below figure.

Conclusion: It was all about how to run windows memory diagnostic tool. If memory diagnostic utility finds a problem then it means RAM is not working properly and you need to replace the faulty RAM.
