Cooking can be more important than you think in the world of Fallout. Sometimes the only thing standing between you and death is stopping to check your Pipboy for a snack. In the following guide we’ll let you know what it is you need to do to make sure your inventory is well stocked in all of the tastiest treats the wasteland has to offer.

Step 1) Setup a cooking station. You will need to set up a base of operations with a cooking station. I would suggest Sanctuary as a good starting base for this. You get access to it early on, there’s a lot of room to build, and it’s pretty easy to find for quick traveling to on the map, being all by itself up in the top left. It does not start with a cooking station though, if you can't make your own, try Red Rocket Station, it has one out around back already set up. Once you have placed a cooking station in the base of your choosing, or taken over one with a cooking station, I would suggest a container, maybe even two, right beside it. I tend to use one container to store everything I haven’t cooked yet, and the other for all of the finished food.

Step 2) Gather cooking ingredients. Once you've got things set up, you’ll need something to cook. All those critters you see out in your wanderings of the Wasteland? Turns out, they’re pretty tasty. Collect any meat you find, be it bloodbug, bloatfly, squirrel, dog, or even deathclaw. If you think you might be able to fry it up on a fire, you probably can.

Step 3) Get cooking! Head back to your settlement with all of your cooking supplies and access the cooking station you have built. You will be able to see everything you can possibly cook here on the left, and if you select the recipe it will show you what you need to make it. If you have the required ingredients, go ahead and select what you want to cook, and press the button to go ahead and cook it.

Keep in mind though, some of the food you cook will be chock full of a healthy dose of radiation too! Just remember, growing a third arm out of your back is still healthier than being ripped to shreds by a deathclaw.
