There are many reasons why you might want to change your computer’s name in Windows 10. If you bought the computer from a store, it might have a boringly generic name. If you upgraded it from Windows 7, the name many have been modified or corrupted. Or you might just feel like taking a new name. If you want to know how to change your computer’s name in Windows 10, read on.
As always, there are a couple of ways of getting what you need.
Change your computer’s name in Windows 10
1. Navigate to Settings, System and About.
2. Click Rename PC.
3. Type the new name and click Next. You can select the usual mix of lower and upper case letters, numbers and hyphens. No special characters and no spaces.
4. Select Restart now or Restart later for the change to take effect.
You can also try this:
Type or paste ‘sysdm.cpl’ into the Search Windows box and type the name into the Computer description box.
Or:
1. Right click the Start Menu icon, select System and Advanced system settings.
2. Click the Computer Name tab and add the new name in Computer description.
3. Click Apply, then OK to confirm.
4. Select Restart now or Restart later for the change to take effect.
The computer name doesn’t influence much aside from how it appears on a network and within a domain should it be a member. However, in terms of truly personalizing your system, giving it a cool name is just the beginning!
