Looking to get the best perks for your character as quickly as possible, but don't know the best way to get the experience needed to level up? Let me fill you in on a few tricks that'll have you rolling in the experience points in no time.
Step 1) Build your character for experience farming.
The absolute best way to farm experience easily is to make your character an idiot. No, really. Start with at least 5 luck, and no higher than 2 intelligence. It won't matter what your other stats are at this point, those are the only two that are going to matter for leveling up quickly.
Step 2) Get the idiot Savant perk.
This is going to be your bread and butter for gaining experience here. It will give you 3 times the experience randomly ANY time you gain experience doing anything. You can do this right at your first level up and start farming from there.
Step 3) Get experience.
Anyway you can, go gain some experience, questing, building your settlement, exploring, whatever it is you enjoy. The best way I find is by doing quests, and before you turn in the quest at the end, drink a beer. This will bring your intelligence down from 2 to 1, giving the highest chance of the idiot savant activating and giving you a lot of bonus experience for finishing that quest. If you want, you can also quicksave just before you turn in the quest, and if it didn't proc then reload and try again! You'll be easily getting thousands of experience just for turning in very simple quests this way.
Step 4) Get rank 2 idiot savant.
Once you hit level 11, get the second rank of this amazing perk and those three times experience will turn into five times the experience. That means a simple quest worth 400 experience is now worth a whopping 2000 experience if you get the perk to proc on the quest reward.
Step 5) Save up those perk points!
You are going to want to invest in intelligence eventually, so save up those perk points for when you do. You're missing a lot of good perks by being an idiot. With how fast you'll be leveling up though, you can easily dump 8 perk points into intelligence all at once when you feel you're a high enough level. This will bring you right up from a knuckle dragging buffoon to an Einstein able to modify all those nifty energy weapons and power armor out there.
That should be all you need to level up quickly, even once you have put the points into intelligence, that idiot savant perk is going to pop up once in a while and continue to level you up fairly quick. Each point of intelligence you get increases your overall experience earned as well, so even more bonus.
