The lock screen in Windows 10 is more than just a screensaver. It can host widgets, show apps, emails, calendar entries and more. You can personalize it to your heart’s content. One popular tweak is changing the background image, so if you want to change your lock screen background in Windows 10, here’s how.

Change your lock screen background in Windows 10
Changing the background of the lock screen is similar to changing desktop backgrounds.

1. Navigate to Settings and Personalization.
2. Select Lock screen in the left pane.
3. Select Background in the right pane and choose your option.
4. Select the image(s) you want to use.

The preview image in the right pane should now reflect your selection. That’s all there is to it.

Depending on how often you use the lock screen, you can also add apps to it for a little more interest. I have mine configured to show the weather and results from a sports website.

Add an app to your lock screen background
It’s a simple matter of selecting what app you want to display.

1. Navigate to Settings and Personalization if you closed the window.
2. Select Lock screen in the left pane.
3. Select the icon under ‘Choose an app to show detailed status’. A list should appear showing the apps you have installed.
4. Select an icon under ‘Choose apps to show quick status’ for some extra app action on the same screen.
