As part of Microsoft’s efforts to deliver a more secure operating system, access and tasks within apps can be limited by the User Account Control (UAC). Even if you’re logged in as an administrator, you may find confirmation boxes or certain operations limited. While this may be an annoyance, it is designed to keep you safe. If you want to run an app as Administrator in Windows 10, here’s how you do it.

It isn’t a good idea to turn UAC off altogether as it can leave your system exposed. You will also find Windows Store and some store apps won’t work with it turned off. I tend to have it turned down and run the apps I need as an administrator.

Run an app as Administrator in Windows 10
To run specific apps as Administrator in Windows 10 is easy.

• To allow full admin access just once right click the executable or shortcut and select ‘Run as administrator’. This will run that instance only with full permissions.

Or:

Highlight the app you want to open and hold down Ctrl and Shift. Double click on the app or hit enter and the app will open with admin privileges.

Or:

• Navigate to the executable of the program in windows Explorer and highlight it. The Manage tab should appear within Explorer, click on it and select ‘Run as administrator’.

Always run an app as Administrator in Windows 10
If you always want to run a program with admin privileges you can do either of these.

Right click the executable or shortcut and select Properties. Find the Compatibility tab and select ‘Run this program as an administrator’.

Or:

Right click the executable or shortcut, select Properties, then Advanced and then select ‘Run as administrator’.
