If you find yourself setting up and testing multiple accounts, sitting through that initial user sign-in animation can quickly become tiresome. I learned this the hard way when building a few dozen multiple-user Windows 10 machines earlier this year. If you find yourself in the same position and want to enable or disable user first sign-in animation in Windows 10, here’s how.
Disable user first sign-in animation in Windows 10
The first sign-in animation is enabled by default so your first action is likely to be turning it off. To do this we need to use the Group Policy Editor snap-in.
1. Type or paste ‘gpedit.msc’ into the Search Windows box.
2. Navigate to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System and Logon in the right pane.
3. Find ‘Show first sign-in animation in the right pane and double click it.
4. Select Disabled and click OK.
Disabling the user first sign-in animation in Windows 10 is only a benefit for that initial sign in. It has no effect on subsequent logins on a given machine.
Enable user first sign-in animation in Windows 10
To enable the animation, we just reverse the steps above.
1. Type or paste ‘gpedit.msc’ into the Search Windows box if you closed the window.
2. Navigate to Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, System and Logon in the right pane.
3. Find ‘Show first sign-in animation in the right pane and double click it.
4. Select Enabled and click OK.
This should bring back that animation as Microsoft originally intended.
