The appropriately named diva of the battlefield, D Va kind of makes me think of a cross over between Gundam and any number of cutesy anime shows. Don't let her cutesy attitude fool you though, she can be incredibly deadly piloting her mech, or even out of it as well.

Main Attack - Fusion Cannons
D Va's main attack when she is piloting her mech is twin fusion cannons that can be deadly at short range and never need to reload. She can dish out a lot of punishment, and take a fair amount as well. You can sneak up on an enemy team and basically act like you are playing a Reaper who can take a beating instead of a tank helping your team with D Va.

Boosters
With this ability you can close the gap between you and your enemies quickly so that your cannons can do maximum damage. Any enemies you hit while using this will be knocked back, and if you time a melee attack at the right time it will really send them flying, giving you the chance to use this to knock people off ledges to their death.

Defense Matrix
This is D Va's only real 'tank' ability, and it really only protects her, unless she's standing in front of other people. Any projectiles coming at D Va will be shot down and completely negated rather than hit her. You can combine this ability with the boosters, which will let you barrel into the enemy ranks, while blocking anything they shoot at you on the way. Trying to fire your main guns will cancel this ability early as both can't be used together.

Ultimate - Self Destruct
D Va will set the reactors in her mech to overload and explode after a short delay. Anything caught in the blast will most likely get killed, and that includes you, so put some distance or break line of sight from your mech after you use it. You can also use the boosters before you use this, and your mech will continue to propel itself along while charging up to detonate. Due to the long charge time before it explodes, most enemies will get out of it's way before it goes off, so it is really used best to clear an area of enemies for your team, since they won't be effected by the explosion.

Light Gun
When you are without your mech, you still have this light blaster to defend yourself with. It does some decent damage on it's own and has more of a range than the fusion cannons. Just remember, even if your mech is destroyed, you can still be deadly. Just beware as you have very low health and some champions can kill you in one shot when you aren't piloting your mech. Play carefully until you can call it in.

Ultimate - Call Mech
This is your ultimate when you don't have a mech to pilot, it will call in a new one for you. This doesn't share the same build up as your main self destruct ultimate, so using this won't set you back to 0% charge on that. Also, this ultimate will charge very quickly if you are getting in some shots with your pistol, so you can generally get a new mech out fairly quickly.

All in all, D Va is listed as a tank hero, but really doesn't play much like one. I'd classify her more as a bruiser than a tank, able to deal a lot of damage, and able to soak up a lot of it too, but doesn't really protect her team. If that sounds like something you'd like to try out, then give D Va a chance, she's a lot of fun!
