Knowing what hardware you have in your computer is part of the joy of ownership. It allows you to know what games you can play and at what resolutions. It helps to plan an upgrade path or help you upgrade drivers and troubleshoot. Here is how to find out what video card your computer has in Windows 10.

Find out what video card your computer has
This first method is reasonably accurate but only if you have the correct graphics driver installed. If you don’t, it can display incorrect information.

1. Navigate to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound and Device Manager.
2. Select Display adapters. The model should be shown in the window.
3. Right click and select Properties for more information.

Here is a more accurate way to find out what video card your computer has in Windows 10.

1. Navigate to Control Panel, Appearance and Personalization and Display.
2. Select Adjust resolution from the left pane.
3. Select the ‘Advanced settings’ text link in the next window.
4. This reads the video card BIOS directly and will ensure all information is correct regardless of what graphics drivers you have.

If you want more information about your video card and its capabilities, you can use DXDiag.

1. Type or paste ‘dxdiag’ into the Search Windows box.
2. Let the app load and select the Display tab(s) at the top. It will also tell you the driver type, date and version and whether there are any problems with drivers or device settings.
